Whatsminer M50S units show up in Gangwon shed expansions because operators recognize the family and nominal 0.12–0.14 PH/s per unit fits mid-scale plans. Factory noise figures assume open rack rooms, not corrugated sheds with one gable vent.
We logged three M50S units in a Chuncheon-adjacent shed across April humidity swings. Intake temp tracked outdoor plus four to seven degrees when the sun hit the south wall. Hash stayed within pool variance, but fan PWM sat higher than identical units on our indoor bench.
Sound: At three meters, SPL exceeded what the client promised the neighboring farmhouse — not dramatically, but enough for a complaint during a dry weekend when windows were open. Slowing fan curves cost roughly 3% hash in our window; acceptable for the client once explained in writing.
Condensation: Morning runs after cold nights showed moisture on the intake lip before sun strike. Client installed baffles and delayed full-power startup until intake temp crossed 10 °C — cheap fix, absent from the purchase brochure.
M50S remains a viable family for sheds if exhaust path and noise contracts are designed first. Order the machine second.
